Work comment
In a letter to his fiancée Anna Lisa Liljebjörn dated 2 April 1816, Erik Gustaf Geijer writes that he has 'composed' a 'Trio för fortepiano, violoncell och viol' [Trio for fortepiano, violoncello, and violin], which has been corrected by Hæffner, and furthermore that he played it at an amateur concert on 31st March.
As far as can be ascertained, this is the first instrumental piece Geijer composed after his two large works for piano written in England in 1810, which were influenced by his then instructor Pehr Frigel. Now, J.C.F. Hæffner has become a kind of mentor and with whom Geijer collaborated in the momentous collection "Svenska Folk-Wisor från Forntiden" (1814) [ref. Lennart Hedwall's commentary to Ahlborg's edition].
